A Florist's Pre-Wedding Shoot at Gallop Extension & Tiong Bahru: A Celebration of Love and Blooms
A Florist's Pre-Wedding Shoot: Where Love Blooms in Singapore
Imagine this: a whimsical pre-wedding shoot where the couple's love story unfolds amidst a vibrant tapestry of blooms. This wasn't just a photoshoot; it was a celebration of love, creativity, and the artistry of florals. And the setting? None other than the charming locales of Gallop Extension and Tiong Bahru in Singapore.
Gallop Extension: Where Modernity Meets Mother Nature
I really like Gallop Extension because it has a well blend of modern architecture and industrial vibes, as well as sufficient greeneries for my favourite nature-vibe photoshoot which provided the perfect backdrop for a contemporary and stylish photoshoot.
Even my gown was a mix of sleek satin mermaid cutting with a lacey outerpiece that gives off an entirely different vibe.
Tiong Bahru: A Nostalgic Journey Through Time
Tiong Bahru, with its charming heritage buildings and vibrant street art, offered a contrasting yet equally captivating setting. This location was chosen not only because of it's popularity, but also because it is closer to our hearts as my partner and I enjoy exploring local areas!
My Flower Selection
Not going to lie, I was very stressed when it comes to deciding what colours I want for this PWS - I wanted something that is bright, but not too overboard, and at the same time something a little pastel which is closer to heart.
Ultimately decided on this apricot & pink palette which was a super last-minute change of mind because I happen to find those gorgeous apricot garden rose sprays!
We did our PWS earlier this year, and that was the best period when it comes to the type of spring flowers we can get our hands on in Singapore - think ranunculus, leucanthemum.
How to Decide on Your Pre-Wedding Bridal Bouquet
As a florist and someone who has been through this process myself, my rule of thumb is - be adventurous, cohesive, and communicate. Let me explain why.
#1 Being adventurous allows you to try a different style of bridal bouquet that you might not want for your actual-day wedding. A PWS is typically more pose-y, focusing on just you and your partner, so it is completely fine to opt for a bouquet that is more modern (e.g. boho/rustic versus red palette).
#2 Remember to stay cohesive! You should think of a theme for your PWS - like you want a more Korean-style shoot, or a more candid/casual style. Your bouquet should match the overall style you are going for, so that all elements will come together perfectly!
Here's my example: I wanted a more candid + Korean-style shoot, and I want my flowers to show in the photos. Pastel colours are my all-time favourite, but given my years of experience as a florist, I know the colours do not show much in photos like how I want them to be, which is why I've added bright pink flowers & apricot ranunculus for that extra saturation amongst my pastel pink rose.
The bouquet alone is a statement piece, but that is completely fine because my outfits are generally more minimal and plain, so they do not steal each other's limelight.
#3 Communicate your ideas with your florist. Don't be shy to let your florist knows what theme you are going for, or show them what outfits you have chosen because we can help you narrow down your choices! Some colours you like might not go well with other colours, or a round bouquet might not be ideal for a casual photoshoot - these are things that I will advise my brides-to-be during the discussion process.
